From Sunday's Server...
This time of year for WSYG is always really, REALLY busy. Our students are trying to finish the year strong, while we are trying to get the summer activities planned. Probably the busiest of the bunch are the seniors and their parents. With Graduation in just a few weeks, along with finishing all of their school requirements and finishing up spring sports, they’re are also making final preparations for what they are going to do after they’ve finished high school. The class of 2013 has been an extraordinary class. They have achieved academic success. They have been leaders in their school and in the youth group. Many of them have been dedicated to serving the city of Memphis. Several in the class have been on mission trips to Miami, Rhode Island, Ghana and Honduras (just to name a few). They have been the kind of leaders that have represented their church and their families extremely well. But they are not just leaders in their school and their youth group. 1 Timothy 4:12 says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” This passage not only gives young people permission to be leaders in their youth group, but also in the church as a whole. I think about those words of Paul to a young Timothy when I think about this class. They have been leaders in the church. They have set an example in many things. Please be praying for these students and their families as they finish their high school careers strong. And please plan to attend a service to honor them on May 5th at 5:00 pm in the auditorium. It will be a way to say thank you to these young leaders.
